Disclaimer: The characters of Sailor Moon are the property of Naoko Takeuchi. I am just using the characters for my own enjoyment. Yadda yadda yadda. Blah blah blah.

~ This story was originally an English assignment where a potion with consequences must be used. I just switched the names and made it a Sailor Moon fic. ENJOY! Dedicated to my soul sisters: India (Serena/Utena ^.~,) Jess (Kitsune,) Tabby (Rei,) Mindy (Min-cat/Bulma,) and Eman (Yui/Lady Pink.)

THE WILTING ROSE

"Will I ever find my one true love?" Serenity the only child of Elizabeth and Herald Gilmore wondered while sitting in the garden one day staring at the wilting rose

she held in her hand. "I am three and twenty and I'm not even allowed off of the grounds.

How will I ever find the one for me?"
Serenity Gilmore is the jewel of Weston Village- her prison. Her mother had carried fourteen babies: five were stillborn, four died shortly after birth, three were miscarriages, but the third and fourteenth children were born healthy and survived. The two sole survivors were named Samuel and Serenity. Serenity had her father's brilliant golden colored hair and her mother's sapphire eyes. Samuel had his mothers mahogany brown hair but his fathers emerald eyes.
Samuel was eleven at the time of Serenity's birth. At the time he suffered from a lack of adventure. As all little boys are at one time or another, he was very curious about what was beyond the castle grounds. Like curiosity did to the cat, it killed him. He went and visited the village and was trampled by a runaway horse and stage coach.
Now, twelve years later, Elizabeth gravely fears letting their daughter out of the castle. Herald is always too filled with ale to care much.
"I will never get out of this horrid place! I will grow old and alone and die here!" Serenity shouted one day frustrated that her mother had denied her request to go to the village again and wouldn't allow the two soldiers constantly guarding her to leave her alone.

***** "What's this?" inquired Serenity curiously of the cook as she held a vial of purplish-blue color liquid that she saw on the counter-top.
"Why that's me mother's potion, God bless her soul. She always fancied herself a witch. She never hanged for it though because most folk knew she was daft at times." said Angelina, a tall, robust woman, currently plucking the feathers of the goose that would be cooked for dinner.
"Is it really?! A potion?!" she said excitedly. "Well what does it do?"
"Hmmm. well, me mother told me it was a love potion. It's supposed to find yer true love and send him right to ye. She also told me that once ye drink it ye only got two months to live. Isn't too good for yer body she said. So ye put it right on back now missy. Don't ye even think of drinking that. Yer mother would just keel over at the sight of ye in the kitchen with the fire and knives. " Angelina replied and chuckled then focused on cleaning the goose.
"Do not fear I would never dream of drinking the vile contents of that vial." She said while pretending to return the vile. She slipped it into her chemise and hurried out of the kitchen.

"Hmph! What nonsense. However I'm ready to try anything! I would rather have one day of love than an eternity of loneliness." Serenity stated rather vehemently once she was in the privacy of her chambers.
She pulled the stopper off of the vial and smelled a rather nasty pungent odor came seeping out.
"Ewww! However desperate times call for desperate measures." She put her thumb and index finger over her nose and plugged it, threw her head back and downed the contents of the vial.
Abruptly her stomach started cramping and pain shot through her entire body. Her body felt like it was on fire, as if someone had tore her stomach open and poured salt into her wounds. Jolt after jolt of pain passed threw her as she collapsed. Then the inferno raging inside of her shot one last shock of white fiery pain through her and began to subdue.

A week later, sitting in the garden, Serenity was despondent at the thought of never meeting her soul mate and having gone through all the pain she went through for nothing- when suddenly she spotted something moving from the corner of her eye. She turns to look and found herself face to face with a handsome stranger who had a jagged scar from the right side of his ebony black colored hairline straight down curling to right under his cerulean blue eyes that were filled with kindness.
He smiled at her. Her heart stopped.
"Excuse me sir. I'm Serenity Gilmore, and you are?"
"Hello I'm your new head gardener. My name is Darien Shields."
After that Serenity would spend her days from morning to midnight in the gardens. Except on the rainy days where she would just sit and moped around. A beautiful romance bloomed and within a months time she had by then finally convinced her mother into agreeing to the marriage and was happily married to Darien.
The end of the second month draws near, but by then Serenity had forgotten about the potions consequences. She lived the last few days in bliss and the last day had approached. The next day Darien awoke to a cold corpse of his once lively beautiful wife and threw himself from the battlements so that he may join his love. Elizabeth went mad was eventually sent to live in a convent. Herald slowly drank away all his fortune and died in the rumble that was once the grand Weston castle.
It is said if you visit the ruins of Weston castle you can see Darien and Serenity walking hand in hand among the rubble, hand in hand with love in their eyes.

THE END What say you? Suggestions? Comments? Flames? By the way I got 95% on this assignment. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! ^.~
