A/N: Hey everybody! Ok, this is a story that just sort of came to me one day, and I have been working hard on it ever since! Hope you like it!

Chapter 1: Soul Mates

“Candi! Wake up! Time for school!” yelled my Mom.

“Ugh!” I groaned.

My name is Candini Joanez. I am an eighth grader at Blake Lake Middle School. I live in Connecticut, about an hour away from Yale University. I live with my Mom, and I see my Dad every other weekend. My parents got divorced when I was seven. Mom said that Dad was spending way too much time at his restaurant downtown and she never trusted the waitresses that worked there. I miss my Dad, but I love coming home to a peaceful house.

I am not, (I repeat) not a morning person. But then I realized what tonight was. Tonight was the Annual Pet Pick at the local farm. Every year, my best friend Luna and I go to the Pet Pick. I bring my Calvin King Spaniel named LuLu and Luna brings her ferret named Tootsie Roll. The Pet Pick gives friends and families a chance to pick various fruits and vegetables with their pets. I have gone to the Pet Pick all thirteen years of my life. Let’s see. The first five years it was with my beagle Dopey. Then when I was six until I was eleven I took my Yorkshire Terrier Lily. Now, I have taken LuLu for the first time last year. I’ve had a dog all of my life. Whenever one dies, we have a little funeral for it and then wait a month or so until we find the perfect new dog!

I rolled over and looked at my clock. Oh, no! 7:05! My bus comes at 7:20!

I hopped out of bed. Jeans, a Black Eyed Peas concert T-shirt, a “Go Serpents!” hoodie, turquoise tennis shoes, a charm bracelet that Luna made me, and my funky earrings that I found at a thrift store. This is my “fabulous” outfit for the day. I grabbed my red purse with the white polka dots and ran down the stairs. 7:10! Eeek!

I quickly ate a banana and a granola bar. I ran to the bathroom to brush my teeth.

“Just my luck,” I thought out loud,” we’re out of toothpaste!”

7:17! Jeez! Time does fly!

I ran to the closet to grab some toothpaste. 7:19! Ugh!

I quickly brushed my teeth, took my lunch money from the counter, said goodbye to LuLu, and ran for my bus stop.

I got to my stop just as the bus pulled up. Thank goodness my bus was late today! I hopped on. I have always sat next to Luna on the bus, but she wasn’t there. I figured her Dad gave her a ride because (like me) she overslept.
I plopped down in the seat where we always sit and pulled out my copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I was at my favorite part of the book (when Harry and Cho kiss, cause, hey, I’m a sucker for romance) when the most popular guy in the eighth grade (not to mention the cutest), Tyson, came and sat down next to me after getting on the bus. I was so shocked that Mr. Starting Quarterback was sitting next to me and not Sydney, the captain of the cheerleading squad and the most popular girl in school. And, Sydney just happened to be Tyson’s girlfriend of three months. Ya gotta love stereo types! Gag me.

Not only was I shocked that Tyson sat next to me of all people, the ENTIRE BUS was shocked (including Mr. Phil, our bus driver)!

“What’s up?” Tyson asked casually, as if nothing out of the ordinary was occurring. He threw down his backpack, which landed on my foot. It hurt like heck, but I didn’t say anything.

“N-nothing much,” I managed to get out, trying to hold back cries of pain. I had had a crush on Tyson since fifth grade. He only sat next to me in my dreams.

“How many times have you read it?” he asked, gesturing towards my Harry Potter book.

“Eleven,” I replied in a quite voice.

“I’ve read it six times,” Tyson replied.

Whoa! Okay, stop! Rewind this picture. Almost there. FREEZE! Tyson likes Harry Potter!? This guy is officially my soul mate! Ok, now go ahead and press play.

I stared into those bright blue eyes. “Brilliant,” I muttered under my breath.

“What did you say?” he asked.

“Uh,” I said, trying to come up with a good cover-up. ” What’s your favorite part?”

Tyson thought for a minute, and then eagerly replied, “When Harry is taken to live at Number 12, Grimmuald Place by the members of the Order on their brooms!”

“My favorite part is when Harry and Cho kiss,” I said in a dazed voice. I was lost in his gorgeous eyes, thinking about how badly I want to kiss him just like Harry and Cho! Maybe some Harry and Ginny snogging. Now THAT would be fun! Oh, sorry. Yes, I know! Your poor, poor minds.

“What are you doing talking to HER?” Sydney said in her way-too-high voice. Sydney was obviously irritated that Tyson sat with ME instead of HER.

“Talking to someone who has an interest the same as mine,” he replied coolly.

“What is that?” Sydney questioned, giving me eyes of daggers.

“Reading,” Tyson said.

“I read,” Sydney said, trying to compete, but Tyson saw right through her.

“Books?” Tyson questioned eagerly, obviously enjoying this.

“Of course!” Sydney said.

“Really?!” Tyson said, surprised. “What was the last book you read?”

“The ninth Harry Potter book,” she quickly replied.

I tried sooo hard not to giggle. Tyson couldn’t help himself.

“There are only seven books in the series. And the seventh one hasn’t even come out yet! It comes out this July, just in case you’d like it know.” Tyson said clutching his side.

As soon as bus number four pulled into Black Lake Middle School, Sydney Lifefield stomped of furious.

“Let me know what happens in the ninth book!” Tyson yelled after her, still laughing uncontrollably.
