Harry sat glumly against the back of the armschair. Normally he would have been happy to get one of the best seats by the fire for once, but his thoughts were too wrapped up in other matters than to focus on armchairs.....

The only other person in the common room was Hermione, who was finishing up her potions essay. Ron offered to take Prefect duties that night so Hermione could get caught up on homework.

Hermione sighed, and put her essay back in to her back. She looked fondly around the room, but when her eyes met harry, she frowned. Harry was just sitting there, a quill in one hand, his history of Magic essay in his lap. Untouched books lay at his feet as he stared in to space.

Hermione made her way across the room and sat on the couch which was placed right next to the chair Harry was sitting in.

Harry glanced at her, gave her a feeble smile, and turned back to his essay, only to look up and stare in to the fire again.

Hermione sighed. "Harry," she said softly, "you have been really distracted lately."

Harry looked up at her again. "What d'you mean? I'm fine." He lied, scratching the back of his neck, as he always did when he was trying to get awy with lying.

Hermione didn't believe a word of it. "Come on Harry! I've been your best friend for the past six years! Tell me whats on your mind!"

Harry scowled at her. "Nothing." he grumbled moodlily, scribbling something on his essay.

Hermione still didn;t believe him. "Harry, you know, I'm not going to leave you alone until you tell me what's going on!"

"I can't tell you."
"You can tell me anything, Harry, you know that."
"It's not that simple."
"What's not that simple?"
"Hermione! Stop!"
"What are you hiding from me. Harry? Just tell me what and I'll leave you alone!"
"I'm in love with Ginny!"

The room went silent. Harry thanked God that he and Hermione were the only ones in the common room. It was a Hogsmeade day, so it's not like anyone would be there.

"I see." Hermione mumbled, leaning back in to the chair.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that one, eh, Granger? Hermione thought. Well dont just sit there and stare in to space! Do something!

But Hermione didn't need to say or do anything, because then Harry poured his heart out.

"I started having feelings for her when Ron and I walked in on her and Dean kissing."

Hermione gasped, knowing very well that Harry and Ron walked in on Ginny and Dean already.

"Yeah, i know. I.... I just wanted to punch Dean for kissing her. All he cares about is how she looks, not how fantastic she is as a person....."

Hermione smiled, though Harry couldn't see it. "You know, Harry," Hermione saidm "there are very few good guys out there like you."

Harry blushed and looked at her. "Really?"

"Yes! Harry, you realize how great Ginny is as a person not her body! You love her because-"

"I'm not in love with her! She's Ron's sister for Heaven's sake!" Harry exclaimed.

Hermione's expression softened. "Harry," she said softly, "you're in love with her."

Harry's face hardened and he blushed. "Love is just a trap nature set out for us."

"Then I guess you fell in to it. You fell in love."

There was a silence except for the crackling of the fire. "But what if she doesn't like me back?"

Hermione laughed. "Ginny has had a major crush on you for the past 6 years!"

"Oh please." Harry rolled his eyes. "She's with Dean now."

Harry scolded himself silently for sounding so much like a girl.

"Harry! You can go out with someone and not really want to!" Hermione exclaimed.

Harry's face screwed up in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

Hermione sighed. "She never really wanted to go out with Dean. He sort of...... made her."

"WHAT?"

"Calm down, harry! He isn't hurting her or anything..... he just sort of pressured Ginny in to going out with him."

"I'll kill him."

"Harry, dont worry! Ginny's....... ok. She's a woman, and when the time is right, you'll know what to do."

Harry sighed. He didn't want to show it but Hermione's talk was pretty calming. Harry picked up his Defense Against the Dark Arts homework, and bega to work on it.

Hermione beamed. She bade Harry good day, and headed off to the library. She was feeling pretty good about herself, until she ran in to-

"Ginny!"

Ginny was walking back to the common room, all bundled up in her coat, hat and gloves. Her ears, nose and cheeks were pink from the cold. "Hey!" she said breathlessly.
"So what are you doing back from Hogsmeade so early?" Hermione asked Ginny casually leaning up against the wall.
"Oh, well Dean went off with Seamus..." Ginny muttered grumpilly. "said they were going off to do some 'guy stuff' and I wouldn't want to come."
"Well if you're going back to the common room Harry's in there. Maybe you can keep him some company."
Ginny's face lit up and she beamed. Thanks Hermione! See you later!"
And with that Ginny pounded towards the portrait of the Fat Lady, and disappeared begind it.

Hermione smiled to herself, and walked away, with a litte skip in her step, sure that Ginny would have plenty to tell her, once she got back to the common room.
