The tension was immense as Harry, Ron and Hermione walked among the crowds for the second time in their entire life. It had been 10 years since they followed the dazzling lights leading towards an immense stadium hidden in a forest out of the muggles sights. Yes, once again it was the Quidditch World Cup yet something was different this year. There was more excitement than last year and the stakes were higher. Two Teams, One Cup. Both teams were enemies and despised each other. England Vs Germany. The reason behind the hatred was the fact that last year, and the year before, Germany had knocked England out of the competition. This year would be different.
‘We’re going to win today!’ Harry was optimistic and beaming with pride.
‘Imagine if we win- I’ll know someone famous!!’ Ron laughed jokingly as he teased Harry.
They entered the stadium and climbed the many stairs to the top box where Ginny had secured them tickets. The trio were the only ones able to make the memorable night. George and Angelina were attending a Joke Shop conference, Bill was waiting hand-and-foot on his pregnant wife, Fleur. And Mr and Mrs Weasley had won a holiday with the Daily Prophet and the dates could not be rearranged.
Yes, that’s right, Ginny was playing for her home team. Her career had blossomed since she had earned her rightful place on the Holyhead Harpies All Female Quidditch Team.
What an experience this would be and Harry intended to make it more memorable.
They finally reached the box to be welcomed by several people including the Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt.
‘I thought Percy was attending with you Harry,’ Shacklebolt asked as he shook Harry’s hand with much force. Percy was Shacklebolt's high official
‘He has gone to visit his girlfriends muggle parents, Audrey I think her name is?’ Ron replied, so determined to talk to the minister that he almost shouted it at him.
Loud cheering erupted from the stands and seven red-robed players soared from the entrance and up high above the crowds. Harry, Hermione and Ron screamed and applauded with rest, as Shacklebolt made his way over to a raised platform, held his wand to his neck and muttered a spell which projected his voice over the crowd.
‘And we have Smith, Jones, Wilson, Hill, Johnston, Nichols and... WEASLEY!’
The crowd cheered even more wildly (if that was possible) as the England team captain sped out onto the pitch and did a lap around it.
‘She won’t be a Weasley for much longer will she!’ Hermione whispered into Harry’s ear while Ron clapped enthusiastically.
The game was spectacular and the crowd went crazy booing the Germans and screaming at the English. Harry never doubted Ginny’s skill, however, tonight she outdid herself. As a chaser, her goals were magnificent and her swerves were out of the wizarding world but she was best as captain. She played to her teams strengths and when Nichols (the seeker) caught the golden snitch, they all flew to the ground and hoisted Ginny onto their shoulders.
The crowd were ecstatic and even an hour after the final whistle blew, the crowd had still not subsided. At twenty-five to twelve however, the ground was empty.
‘I’ll take Ron back to our tent, you know the plan?’ Hermione asked in a hushed voice.
‘Yep’ Harry replied confidently. This was his one and only chance. He had to do it!
‘Good Luck!’ She gave him a fleeting hug and ran off to find Ron who had evidently hurried off after Shacklebolt probably still trying to secure a job at the ministry as an Auror like his best mate.
Slowly, he walked down the stairs leading onto the pitch, rehearsing his speech in his head as he went along.
As he waited on the pitch, his nerves accumulated. Finally, a red-haired figure ran onto the pitch towards him. As she ran, Harry opened up his arms and encased her in them. He held her there for a while, smelling her hair, taking her in, savouring this moment.
‘So, did you enjoy the game?’ She asked with the widest smile on her face.
‘I enjoyed watching you’ he replied as she blushed a ferocious shade of red- matching her hair. ‘Did you enjoy playing the game?’
‘Yes, it was the best’ She looked around the stadium. ‘To think, all of the supporters were in here just a few hours ago. Did you hear them call my name?’
‘Did you hear me call your name?’ They laughed, still in each others arms. Harry leant down and kissed her on her forehead.
‘I love you, you know that don’t you?’
‘Of course, and I love you Harry!’
‘That’s why I don’t want the crowd to cheer your name again.’
‘What. Harry... What’s wrong?’
He let go of her and knelt down on his knee as Ginny gasped, a tear trickling down the side of her face. She knew what was coming. He pulled out a ring from his jacket pocket.
‘Ginerva Weasley, will you do me the honour of becoming my wife?’
She could not conceal her joy and jumped on Harry, knocking him down.
‘I take it that’s a yes!’
‘YES! YES! YES!’ Ginny cried. Tears were streaming down her face now and Harry joined her. What a pair they looked! Harry climbed back up and helped Ginny up too.
Harry held her hand and together they strolled back to their tent. Both had the same idea in mind and Ginny herself had a surprise for her new fiancee.
‘Who else knew?’ Ginny quizzed as Harry wrapped his arm around her waist and Ginny returned the gesture. ‘You were so secretive’
‘Only Hermione. I needed a female point of view on the ring. She said something that meant a lot to me. So, I went to Gringotts last week to get out some money but I found that ring in there attached to a note. It was my mum’s engagement ring. She left it to me so that I could give it the girl of my dreams. She put it in the vault when Voldemort basically controlled Britain.’ Ginny flinched at the mention of his name. ‘Hermione said it was perfect. Actually, while we were shopping, she kind of kept hinting that she wanted to get married so we might want to persuade Ron to hurry up!’
‘Th-This is your mum’s ring. Oh Harry.’ Again, she began to cry. She embraced him in a tight hug and kissed him passionately. ‘I won’t tell Ron yet though. This is my time and I am going to make the most of it’
Harry chuckled and they carried on strolling towards the campsite.
‘Do you like the ring them?’
‘I love it!’ Ginny stared and beamed down at it.
‘Oh, and I also told your mum and dad- I had to ask their permission. They want you to tell them as soon as you give me an answer. Most people assumed you’d say yes.’
‘It’s because we are so deeply and madly in love. And you are a real gentleman for asking my parents.’
They reached the door of their tent and Harry entered first. Voices could be heard inside and they were talking excitedly. But there seemed to be more than two (Ron and Hermione). As they climbed through the zip-door, they were surrounded by people. Fred and Angelina, Charlie, Ron and Hermione, Percy and Audrey (Mrs Weasley had threatened him), Bill and Fleur and Mr and Mrs Weasley.
‘Congratulations!!’ They called. Harry and Ginny looked stunned yet pleased at the arrival of the whole family. After many kisses, hugs, words of well-being and best wishes, the family disapparated back to “The Burrow” apart from Ron and Hermione who left for the quiet of their tent only to make more noise. The party had consisted of an array of drinks and loud music. Four hours after entering the tent, Harry carried Ginny of to bed. She smiled at him cheekily and they, too, spent a noisy night together. Ginny’s surprise pleased Harry very much however she was not wearing it for long. Their first night together as a couple to be wed, was very memorable, and as a whole, it was a day that would be in their hearts, memories and minds or the rest of their lives.
