I don't own any of the characters, i barely own the plot. JKR gets full credit for all the books, I'm just saying what i think book 7 should be like.

Harry had continued the shouting arguement he had been having with his Uncle Vernon until he finally got sick of arguing and stomped off to his room where his best friends Ron and Hermione had been waiting for him.

"Oy, this one sounded like a bad one." Ron said exasperately. Hermione nodded in agreement.

"Guess your uncle just doesn't like owls, eh?" she said with a grin. Harry shook his head agreeingly.

"I can't wait until we leave. So everything all set for tonight?" He asked, anxiously rubbing his hands together. Ron grinned evily.

"Oh, yeah. This is one birthday, they'll never forget." he said mischeivously.

Payback for a decade of torment I call it, Harry thought bitterly. "Anyways I think that by the time they realise their entire house is rigged with booby traps of dungbombs, we'll be on the Knight Bus headed for the Burrow." They all laughed silently. Ron conjured three beds (a tight fit because of the smallness of the room) and they all went to sleep.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione gathered there things late that night and snuck out of Number 4 Privet Drive. Hermione flagged down the Knight Bus and Ron gave the directions to the Burrow and they were off, laughing merrily at the traps they had set for the Dursleys. Hermione snatched a Daily Prophet from someone's table side as they made their way to the second floor of the triple decker. She skimmed through the pages anxiously. "Anyone we know died?" Ron asked passively.

Hermione shook her head. "No, but there were more dementor attacks-" the bus gave a lurch as they took a sharp turn. -"farther up north. Reckon they must be getting more bold, eh?" Harry and Ron shrugged agreeably. They settled into beds and placed their trunks underneath them. "Happy birthday, Harry." Ron and Hermione said in unison. They slept peacefully until they were awoken by the conductor that they had arrived at the Burrow. It was just about dawn, as they walked toward the Burrow the reality that Harry would never have to return to the Dursley's sunk in and he had to stop himself from whooping in joy. He then wondered where he would live for the rest of his life. Number 12 Grimmauld wasn't an option, too many memories of Sirius being trapped in that horrible place. He could always buy a place, he had enough gold. But he decided he would wait to think about that later. As Ron opened the door and quietly crept in, there was a creak at the stairs and the three of them immediately had their wands out and pointing at the direction of the noise.

"Ronald! How dare you draw a wand against your own mother!" Mrs. Weasley came out looking slightly annoyed. "But I do appreciate the awareness. I just came down to get breakfast ready," She embraced the three of them in a back breaking hug. "It's really nice to see you lot again. I was beginning to think we should write! Anyways the rest of the lot should be getting up soon enough so I'll just start on breakfast. You three should unload your stuff. Hermione when you go into Ginny's room try not to wake her, she hasn't slept much since Dumbledore died, poor thing."

At this last statment Harry turned red with shame as he walked up the stairs to Ron's room. "Listen, mate. We need to talk about what's going on this year. Hermione and I have decided to go back to Hogwarts this year. We think it's important and that you should, too. That's what Dumbledore would've wanted, isn't it?" Ron asked inquiringly as they marched up the stairs.

Harry thought about this for a moment. It is what Dumbledore would've wanted. Plus the library must have some information on how to get rid of Horcruxes. He finally came to a decision. "I'll think about it. But if I do come back, we're starting the D.A back up again. We weren't nearly as prepared last year for the Death Eaters as I would've liked to be. "

Ron grinned happily. "Excellent! I'll tell Hermione. Get some sleep mate, you look dog tired." Harry shook his head. He felt wide awake and he felt he had to talk to a certain redhead who would probably want to talk, too. So Harry placed his trunk near the second bed and went back downstairs. All the Weasley's (except Percy) were assembled smiling jubilantly and a large banner that said 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY' was hung over the doorway. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARRY!" they all chanted.

"Now let's get the cake all settled, then." Mrs.Weasley said briskly. She conjured a medium sized birthday cake out of thin air and set it on the table. She began to hand out slices while Harry approached Ginny.

"Ginny, look. We need to talk later. Maybe after the party. Their are some things I need to say." Ginny looked him in the eye, smiled and nodded. Not knowing what else to do, Harry smiled back uncertainly.

So if you think you've lost your love, well I saw her yesterday

It's you she's thinking of, and she told me what to say

She says she loves you, and you know
that can't be bad yes, she loves you and you know
you should be glad

Mr. Weasley approached Harry. "Now that you're here, how exactly does a dishwasher function?" As Harry went into detail of many other Muggle things, he saw Ginny talking to Ron out of the corner of his eye. He tried to listen in in between Mr. Weasley's admiration of Muggles.

"Well, Ginny, it's not like he hasn't got a lot on his mind you know. I mean he was with Dumbledore when he died. Lord knows that's got to be playing tricks with his consience. That and everything else thats gone on since he got to Hogwarts. He's only seventeen and he's done more than most of the Order!"

"Yes I realize that, Ron! But that doesn't mean he has to cut himself off from the people that care for him!" Ginny retorted.

"Actually he's done a good job of keeping himself open, other than breaking up with you. At least he hasn't become the ticking timebomb of fury like he did in our fith year!" Harry heard no more after that because Fred and George heaved their presents on him. From the twins he got a load of Peruvian Darkness Powder; from Ron he recieved a box of his favorite sweets; Hermione gave him another book of defensive curses and jinxes; Mr. and Mrs. Weasley gave a photo of the entire Weasley family to put in his photo album; and Ginny gave him a new potions set.

As the owls for the school came in Ron and Hermione got an extra large package each. At first Ron got a look of shock when he opened it. Then he turned around to reveal the badge with HB blazed onto it.

"Bloody hell! I've been made Head Boy!" Ron stumbled when he walked now as he walked into the kitchen. Hermione, however, looked as though she could do a backflip.

"Head Girl! Oh God, I've got to borrow Hedwig, Harry. Got to write Mum and Dad!" and she ran off without further ado. Mrs. Weasley looked ready to burst into tears with pride.

"Third Head Boy in the family! My God I can die happy now!" She said exctatically. Ginny patted Harry on the arm.

"Cheer up, Harry. You're still Quiditch Captain!" She said cheerfully. Harry shrugged positively.

She loves you yeah yeah yeah
She loves you yeah yeah yeah
She loves you yeah yeah yeah
And with a love like that you know
you should glad

"Now would be the appropiate time to talk, I think." Ginny motioned to the door. He and Ginny walked off to the creek near the Burrow. As they walked Ginny was the first to speak.

"Look, Harry. I understand that you must feel really guilty about Dumbledore and you should know that he wouldn't want you to be miserable. So stop being a noble blockhead and come to your senses, man!" Her fury shocked Harry.

She loves you yeah yeah yeah
She loves you yeah yeah yeah
She loves you yeah yeah yeah

"I am so sorry, Ginny. Ever since I saw the painful understanding in your eyes last summer, your face has haunted my dreams. When I think of losing you, I can't breathe and I become dizzy. Any other girl would see Harry Potter, Chosen One or The Boy Who Lived. But you just see Harry, and for that I love you! But you have to know, this year I am going to be really busy and it has relatively little to do with school, I might not even come back." and so Harry filled Ginny in on the Horcruxes and what shape they might take. He explained that the D.A would be starting up again and how he would be searching for whereabouts of the Horcruxes. Finally he told her about the prophecy. They stopped under an old oak tree and sat down veiwing the small stream that crept by, bubbling and gurgling softly.

"Harry, you have to know that I love you and that by breaking up with me you did nothing to protect me. My family is marked whether I'm going out with you or not. Besides, Malfoy knew we were going out and he's probably told V-Voldemort anyway." Harry nodded understaningly.

She said you hurt her so,
She almost lost her mind,
but now she says she knows
you're not the hurting kind,

"Ginny, going out with you was so good, I didn't think it was my life I was living. You make me feel complete, and I know that's something Voldemort will never understand. I think I understand what Dumbledore was saying now. I love you, will you go out with me?" Harry said boldly.

"Of course, I was only waiting for you to ask..." Harry leaned in closer and brushed his lips against hers and finally kissing her. Putting his arms around her waist as she put hers around his neck.

Harry pulled for a minute and said jokingly, "Okay, if you'd like to think about it," She chuckled and they resumed. They could've stayed like this for a lot longer if a clearing of the throat didn't interupt them. Ron stood there, tapping his foot.

So if you think you've lost your love, well I saw her yesterday

It's you she's thinking of, and she told me what to say

She says she loves you, and you know
that can't be bad yes, she loves you and you know
you should be glad

"She's filled in on the plan then, mate?" he asked, glaring at Harry. Harry nodded. "Good, then let's get back to the house. Reckon we ought to finish the rest of that cake, eh?" Harry nodded once more and walked hand in hand with Ginny back to the Burrow.

Later that night Harry did not sleep well that night. He slipped into another bad dream. "But My Lord, what of the Malfoy child? How shall he be punished?" a trembling voice, that Harry recognized to be Wormtail's, asked.

"Bring him to me. He will soon learn that to be a faithful follower, one must complete the tasks given by me. He has yet to know pain, yet I assure you, Wormtail, he will know the price for failure." a high, cold voice rasped. A door somewhere opened and a blonde boy walked in and bowed.

"My Lord, you summoned me?" Lord Voldemort did not respond. Instead the high, cold voice could be heard shrieking,

"Crucio!" Screams of agony echoed throughout the room. And Harry woke with his scar burning as though it were on fire.

"Harry? Harry, are you all right?" Ron's voice brought Harry further into reality as he reached for his glasses. "Crikey, you gave me a scare their, mate! You wouldn't stop thrashing about and yelling!"

Harry found himself gasping for breath and in a nervous sweat. He rose up from bed and walked to the window for some air. He shook his head disbelievingly. "It was just a bad dream." he muttered. Ron swore angrily.

"Come off it! You were having another dream about You-Know-Who, weren't you?" Seeing as how there was no way to shake Ron off, he finally admitted it.

"Malfoy's getting punished for not finishing off Dumbledore, that's all." Harry said quietly.

"Not to sound cold-hearted or anything, mate. But Malfoy probably deserves it. Greasy sod." Ron muttered the last part angrily.

"Whatever, we better get to sleep. Your mum probably will want to go to Diagon Alley tommorow." Harry mumbled as he walked back into bed.

"Yeah, g'night, Harry." Ron yawned. That night Harry practiced his occlumency to ward off the bad dreams.

Early that morning, Harry was awakened by Mrs. Weasley's shouts to wake. Harry stood groggily and reached for his glasses. He got dressed and went downstairs to find breakfast ready. "Really you lot, I must've shouted for you for almost ten minutes!" she said angrily to the still half-asleep Harry and Ron. Ginny and Hermione snickered. "Well, we ought to be heading to Diagon Alley now. Oh and Harry, Ron, Hermione, you'll be taking your apparition tests tommorow." Harry mumbled a thanks and headed to the fireplace.

He grabbed some Floo Powder and threw into the now crackling flames and stepped in. "Diagon Alley." he shouted and was swooshed into up the chimney. He landed with a thud in the Fireplace in the Leaky Cauldron.

"Afternoon, Mr. Potter. I imagine your summer has been pleseant?" The old barkeep shouted from behind the bar.

"It was fine, thanks." Harry said lying as he walked out of the fireplace. There was a whoosh and Ginny walked out of the fireplace with a casual air as though she did things like this everyday.

Soon, the rest of the Mrs. Weasley, Ron and Hermione walked out as well. "Right then," Mr. Weasley said, brushing ashes off of his shoulders. "I'll take Ron and Hermione to Flourish and Blotts to get the books, Molly dear you can take them to Madam Malkin's and we'll meet up at the Apotheracy shop. From there, we'll go to Weasley Wizard Weazes."

Ron and Hermione walked off with Mr. Weasley to Flourish and Blotts. Along the way they met other students from school. Ernie Macmilan approached Harry and pompously shook his hand. Terry Boot high fived Harry and they exchanged pleasantries. When they finally entered Madam Malkin's, Harry and Ginny were fitted for robes while Mrs. Weasley looked for robes which would fit Ron and Hermione.

Harry looked around the shop while being fitted. To his left Blaise Zabini, Vincent Crabbe, and Gregory Goyle, all Slytherins in Harry's year, were also getting fitted. They were muttering under their breaths. "Yes, yes I know. I haven't heard from Malfoy, believe me. I don't know why he didn't do it." There were more mutterings from Crabbe.

"What are you, stupid? Do you honestly think they'd LET him back after what happened? No, we need to get even with them. THAT is what I think. We'll have our chance though, patience my friends." Zabini turned to Harry as if just noticing him.
"Potter. I didn't think you had the nerve to show your face around with your blood-traitor pals." Zabini sneered towards Ginny. Crabbe and Goyle guffawed like warthogs who had something up there noses. Harry immediately drew his wand.

"Rectusempra!" He bellowed. A silver jet of light shot out his wand and hit Zabini in the chest. Blaise fell down to the floor laughing hysterically. Harry hadn't used the Tickling Charm since his second year, but obviously it still had a good effect when you didn't want to do too much damage. Suddenly Harry had an idea. An idea that, if it worked, would be flat out hilarious.

"Petrificus Totalus!" Harry shouted at Zabini again. Zabini became stiff as a board but the Tickling Charm was still in effect. The immediate effect was that Zabini wet himself from laughter which was made obvious as a dark spot appeared in his mid section. Harry lifted both the spells and Zabini began to breath easily again.

Crabbe and Goyle marched to Harry but Harry was quicker.

"Furnunculas!" Harry shouted to Crabbe. Immediately, large boils appeared on his face. He turned his wand to Goyle who was fumbling with his own wand. Harry thought in his mind Levicorpus!. Crabbe was yanked from the ankle by an invisible hand and hovered inches above the ground.

Harry turned to Ginny. She was in loud and hysterical fits of jubilant laughter. "That was not funny, Potter." Zabini said panting as he went to the front desk to pay for the robes as Madam Malkin lifted the curses on Crabbe and Goyle.

"Don't tell me your going to take that lying down? Oh yeah, that's right! You can't do magic yet!" The three blushed crimson in fury and ran out of the shop. Harry and Ginny paid for the robes and walked out of the shop with a not so ammused Mrs Weasley.

"Really, Harry, dear! The entire point of being able to do magic after your seventeen is to be mature enough to not abuse it!" she said sternly.

She didn't seem so convinced about it though. They walked to the Apotheracy shop and met Mr. Weasley, Ron, and Hermione. They filled their potion kits and walked to Fred and George's shop.

As they entered Weasley Wizard Wheazes, they were greeted by Fred and George themselves. "'Bout time you lot showed up! Now Harry, don't forget-" Fred started.

"-you don't pay here. Everything is free for you! The rest of you will have to pay though, have to pay the bills, don't we?" George finished. Harry bought some Distraction Detonators and a Shield Cloak incase he had his wand taken away from him. He fastened the shiny green cloak around himself, feeling somehow more protected.

"Now you lot'll be taking our fireplace back home, then." Fred said after they were done with their shopping.

"We'll be in touch, Harry, Ron, Ginny, Hermione, let us know if you need anything and we'll mail order it. You lot are the next Trouble-Makers-in-Chief, I think. Not so great the fact that Ron and Hermione are Heads, though. So Harry and Ginny, we'll be leaving most of the pranks to you." George said solemnly. Harry and Ginny looked at each other and grinned. The twins threw mock salutes to Harry and Ginny and gestured to the fireplace. Harry grabbed some Floo Powder and threw it into the cackling flames.

"The Burrow!" Harry shouted.

Later that same day Harry and Ron were at the Ministry taking their Apparition tests. "Yes Mr. Potter, we've been expecting you. Please go to the waiting room." Hermione, having already turned seventeen and passed the test the first time, was waiting at the Burrow with Ginny, who was yet to be of age.

Ron had turned a shade of purple that Harry thought he only reserved for before Quiditch matches. Of course I could always just ride a broom, Harry thought simply. He had seen more of his fellow students who had either failed the test or were yet to be of age. Susan Bones of Hufflepuff greeted Harry warmly.

"Harry Potter" a young witch shouted from the door way. Harry followed her into a large circular room.

"Harry James Potter, you are of age, correct?" a booming voice said from in front of him. Harry nodded. "Now I want to dissapear and then reapear ten feet to your right. The location is marked with a red X." Harry looked to his right. Sure enough, a large X was stenciled into the ground. Harry concentrated on occupying the space and then turned on the spot.

The familiar sensation of being pushed through a rubber tube had never gotten better, but as Harry looked down he was comforted by the X.

"Well done, Mr. Potter. I'll have you Apparate back into the waiting room now. The witch there will tell you where to go next." Harry nodded again. He focused on the waiting room and then turned yet again.

He rematerialized right next to Ron. "BLOODY HELL, HARRY!" Ron yelled in surprise.

"Well done, Mr. Potter. Now, you've previoulsy selected a long-range apparition point. Apparate their and the Ministry official will be there to tell you whether you passed or not. Have a nice day." Harry grinned and turned to the still sick looking Ron.

"See you at your place, Ron!" He turned once more on the spot. The sensation of Apparition lasted a lot longer this time and he finally rematerialized at the Burrow kitchen.

"Bravo, Harry! You passed!" The familiar voice of Mr. Weasley. He thumped Harry several times.

"Mr. Weasley, you're the Ministry official they sent?" Harry asked.

"Not like I would give them a choice! It's my house, you see." a beaming Mrs. Weasley came into the kitchen. "Good lord, Molly! I've got to run! I'm supposed to tell them that Harry passed! I'll be along for dinner, bye!" and he Disapparated on the spot.

"Congratulations, Harry dear. Ron should be along shortly. Tonks'll be the one who pass or fail him." Tonks walked into the room and suddenly, after congratulating Harry, Ron appeared in the kitchen as well. Tonks inspected Ron to make sure he hadn't splinched himself, which he hadn't.

"Great job, Ron! You pass as well! I've got to be along as well, but I'll see you all later!" And with a crack, she disapeared as well.
