Ginny put on a long-sleeved black button up shirt, and a light jean mini skirt. She rolled up the sleeves to her elbows, and then tied her red hair up into a ponytail. She looked at the clock, 6:57 PM. She walked out of her empty dormitory and down to the Gryffindor common room. The room was pretty full, it basically had every Gryffindor under forth year in there. “Ginny, come on!” Someone pulled Ginny’s arm and was leading her out of the portrait hole. “Hermione, I told you I wanted to be a little late, I hate getting to places early,” Ginny said as her and Hermione walked down to the Great Hall. Hermione was wearing a red tube top with white polka dots and a pair of jeans. “I’ve never been to a dance before, what do you do during them?” Ginny asked. Last year Parvati Patil and Lavender Brown, and a couple of other students, decided they needed more social time. They had talked with Professor Dumbledore about a dance every year. Professor Dumbledore agreed and he allowed the dance to be open to forth years and above. Though this dance you didn’t bring dates, or have a feast, you just danced and socialized. “Well, last year, people were doing all sorts of things. Some were eating and sitting down. Some were just sitting down and talking. Others were just dancing.” Hermione explained as she entered the Great Hall. Ginny looked around the Great Hall; she had never seen it like this before. In the front of the hall was a huge open space, where students from each house danced. Up front was a black wizard with white robes, who played music. Ginny guessed that this was the DJ Hermione was talking about. Near the back of the hall, (where Hermione and Ginny stood) there were several tables, with snacks and drinks. “Wow,” Ginny said as she took in her surroundings. Hermione laughed and pulled Ginny out to the dance floor. Where they both joined the other students who were dancing to a song by the weird sisters. “Ginny, I’m just going to talk to Harry and Ron quick, alright?” Hermione said as the song ended and another song came on. “Yeah, sure that’s fine!” Ginny yelled over the music. Hermione disappeared through the crowd, leaving Ginny alone. It wasn’t long though, before Ginny, saw Luna Lovegood. An odd, but very nice girl, from Ravenclaw. “Hey Luna!” Ginny said as she approached Luna. “Oh, hello Ginny!” Luna said in her usual dreamy voice. “This is quite nice isn’t it?” “Yeah, its great,” Ginny said. Luna nodded, and after a pause, Luna said goodbye, and went to sit at a table. Ginny caught sight of Hermione and went to join her again. Hermione and Ginny danced to the next couple of songs together. Then a song came on, that was completely different from the other songs, which were just being played. It was a slow song. Ginny was about to look around when Hermione dragged her off to a table. They both sat down. “Do you know what to do?” Hermione asked Ginny as she took a sip of butterbeer and looked around the Hall. “Um…” Ginny looked around the Great Hall. Girls who weren’t dancing with guys slowly walked over to the tables, looking available. A lot of partner-less guys were still standing on the dance floor, looking around. Ginny guessed that the people who were dancing together were couples. The girls had their hands wrapped around the guy’s neck, while the guy had his hands on her hips and they slowly revolved on the spot. “Yeah, now I do.” Ginny said. “So, do we just sit here, looking available?” “Basically,” Hermione mumbled as she shot an annoyed look out on to the dance floor. Ginny tried to see who she looked at, but she couldn’t tell. Guys without partners stood on the dance floor looking around at the girls sitting at the tables. They were obviously looking to see who was available for the next slow song. Soon the slow song ended and a fast song came on and the girls got up and went back out on the dance floor, and continued dancing. Ginny and Hermione got up and joined in on the dancing. After a couple of songs, Ginny felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned around, and came face to face with Ron. Harry was standing next to him looking extremely uncomfortable and embarrassed. “Hi Ginny,” Ron said. “Hi Ron, what’s up?” Ginny said. “Ginny this is Harry, Harry this is Ginny,” Ron introduced them. Ginny never met Harry, she knew him of course, who didn’t know him? They never were introduced however, and they never said a single word to each other. “Hi,” Ginny smiled. “Hi,” Harry replied. Ron patted Harry on the back smiled and then walked away. Ginny was now feeling awkward, and her mind raced with questions. Why had Ron introduced them, now? Did Ron force Harry over here? Or did Harry want to meet her? Maybe he liked her and that’s why he wanted to meet her? She shook her head slightly. Harry Potter would never like her. Harry was still standing in front of her; they still hadn’t said a word to each other besides ‘Hi’. She looked around the room. Harry slowly began to walk away; he obviously had felt awkward around her to. Ginny blinked and then turned back to Hermione and continued dancing. That was weird, she thought. After the song ended, she grabbed Hermione’s arm and led her over to a table. A loud and fast song, was now blasting, as Ginny was trying to talk to Hermione. “What is it?” Hermione said, yelling a little bit. “Okay, I was just dancing, when Ron came up behind me and tapped me on the shoulder. He introduced me to Harry.” Ginny said. “So?” “So?! Does Harry like me? I mean it was really sudden, and Harry looked uncomfortable, and it was really awkward when it was the two of us.” Hermione thought for a second and the said, “Do you want me to go ask him?” “No!” Ginny blurted out. “Okay, okay, I wont ask him,” Hermione said hastily. Ginny sighed then got up and headed back out to the dance floor with Hermione. A couple of times, she could have sworn that Harry was trying to come over to her, but whenever Harry moved, Ginny moved to, avoiding him. She had no idea why she was avoiding him, she liked him, and she always had. After a couple more fast songs, a slow song came on. Ginny looked around for Harry, she saw him with Ron a little ways off. Ginny saw Ron nudge Harry and then he pointed to her. Ginny turned quickly back around and slowly started to walk to a table. Once she made her way to the edge of the crowd, Harry hadn’t made his way to her, which she had hoped. Ginny looked for him, and saw him talking to pretty girl, Ginny didn’t know. Suddenly the girl wrapped her arms around Harry and started to dance with him. By the look on Harry’s face, he didn’t want to dance with her at all; he slowly put his hands on her hips and began to slowly revolve on the spot. The girl looked very happy, to be dancing with Harry, but Harry looked uncomfortable and miserable dancing with her. Ginny was furious, couldn’t Harry have just pushed the girl off of him? No, Harry’s too nice to do that. Hopefully there would be another slow song, in which Harry could ask her. “Ginny?” She turned around and saw Ron again. “What?” “You don’t happen to know where Hermione is do you?” Ron asked “Why do you ask?” Ginny said as Ron started to blush. “Um, I- was- maybe- goingtoaskhertodancewithme,” Ron said very fast. Ginny heard what he had said; she just liked to torment her brother, “What was that?” She asked slyly. “I- maybe, was going to ask her to dance with me.” Ron said in a low voice. Ginny smiled, it was about time Ron finally showed his feelings for Hermione. Ginny pointed to where Hermione was sitting. Ron muttered thanks then walked over to where Hermione was talking with Luna. Ginny walked over there too, feeling awkward on the dance floor, when she was all alone. “Sure, Ron!” Ginny heard Hermione say, as she walked over to the table. Ginny gave Hermione a wink as Hermione walked by her, Hermione smiled back. Ron was holding her hand, and leading her out to the dance floor. Ginny sighed as she sat down next to Luna. “What’s wrong?” Luna asked. “Nothing,” Ginny sighed again. “Okay,” Luna said as she started to hum the lyrics to the song. The song started to end, and Ginny stood up and began to walk to the dance floor, Ginny saw Harry and the girl moving apart. Harry had already removed his hands from her waist. The girl however was standing up very straight; she grabbed Harry’s face with her hands and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek. She smiled then walked away. Harry stared after her, with shock on his face. He touched the spot on his cheek where the girl had kissed him, and then he began to rub at it, as if he had been poison. Ginny smiled a little, she was glad to know that Harry wasn’t attracted to that girl. “Hermione!” Ginny said as Hermione came over to her. “So?” “So what?” Hermione asked. “You danced with my brother, how was it?” Hermione blushed, “It was good.” Ginny laughed. Her and Hermione danced to the next couple of fast songs. Ginny looked at her watch, 9:50. The dance ended at ten, and that only left ten minutes to have another slow song. Ginny hoped the next song would be a slow song, but it wasn’t. It wasn’t until 9:54, till another slow song came on, and those four minutes of the last song, seemed like torture to Ginny. The song had barely started and she knew it was a slow song by the music, and no sooner had it started she felt a tap on her shoulder. She slowly turned around, and this time she didn’t come face to face with Ron, but instead it was Harry. She couldn’t even describe the feeling she was feeling as she looked into Harry’s green eyes. “Hey Ginny, do you want to dance?” Harry asked. Ginny smiled then said, “I would love to.” Harry smiled back and placed his hands on her hips. Ginny put her arms around his neck, and they slowly began to revolve on the spot. Ginny didn’t recognize the song at all, but she knew she would always remember it.
Well, every moment spent with you Is a moment I treasure
Ginny looked at Harry and saw that he was looking sideways at another couple dancing. At first Ginny thought he was looking at that girl he had danced with earlier, but it wasn’t. It was Ron and Hermione dancing. “Its about time,” Ginny whispered. Harry laughed, “Tell me about it.”
And I just wanna stay with you In this moment forever, forever and ever
The song seemed to be describing exactly what Ginny was thinking. The song couldn’t have been more perfect.
Well, I just wanna be with you Right here with you, just like this
Ginny looked into Harry’s eyes, and Harry looked into hers.
I just wanna hold you close Feel you heart so close to mine
Harry slowly pulled her closer into a hug almost. Ginny rested her head on his shoulder, her arms dangling around his neck. Ginny saw that some other couples were dancing like this, including Ron and Hermione.
'Cause even when I dream of you The sweetest dream would never do I'd still miss you, baby And I don't wanna miss a thing
The song was ending and Ginny lifted her head off from his shoulder and looked into his green eyes.
Don't wanna close my eyes Don't wanna fall asleep, yeah I don't wanna miss a thing
Harry and Ginny’s eyes were still locked together. Ginny’s heart was beating very fast. Looking into his eyes, Ginny just wanted to kiss him. And then slowly Harry’s face began to move toward hers. Ginny stood up a little straighter, and moved her face toward his. Their lips met, and everything seemed to just dissolve away, it was just her and Harry there, on the dance floor, together. It was a perfect moment, perfect timing, perfect song and perfect person.
I don't wanna miss a thing
The song ended and Harry and Ginny broke apart. Harry looked into Ginny’s eyes and smiled. Ginny smiled back. Ginny pulled her arms back to her side, and Harry took his hands off her waist. They were still looking into each other’s eyes. Harry’s hand met Ginny’s and their fingers interlocked with each other. Harry and Ginny began to walk over to Ron and Hermione, who were standing a little ways off. As they got closer, Ginny saw that they were holding hands also. “Had a good time you two?” Ron asked, as he looked down at their hands. “Yes, and you?” Harry asked looking at Ron and Hermione’s own interlocked fingers. Ron turned red a little. He nodded then beckoned for Harry to go with him. Harry let go of Ginny’s hand, and gave her a kiss on her cheek, before he went off with Ron. Ginny smiled widely. Ron did the same to Hermione before going off with Harry. Ginny then went over to Hermione and sighed. Hermione giggled. “Great night, wasn’t it?” Hermione asked “It was perfect.” Ginny responded.
Okay, I know they probaly don't have wizard DJ's and stuff, but whatever. =P And I love the song, I Don't Want To Miss A Thing by Aerosmith, and I thought it would be good for this story, even though it is a 'muggle' song. =P Please Reveiw! =D
